Being the manager of the Nomad Lodges in Tanzania, Jeffrey Condon is used to interacting with the local wildlife on a daily basis. Tanzania is home to one of the world’s richest diversity of animals including zebras, gazelles, elephants, hippos, and wildebeest. So for Jeff, seeing something like a pelican is just a part of daily life.
In November of 2013, a strong storm passed through the area of Lake Tanganyika. In the storm’s aftermath, Jeff happened to come across a 3-month-old pelican that was injured and separated from its flock. Losing its family and having no experience with getting food on its own, Jeff took in his new friend, Bigbird, to help him on the road to recovery.
