In Mobile, Alabama, a teenager stopped at Wendy’s when everybody at the counter begun laughing at him. But, the kid ddidn’t let it bother him until he saw three rude words an employee put on the bottom of his receipt, abandoning him with tears streaming down his cheeks.
Quenterus Brown, 15, struggles with mental health issues. However, when he went inside a neighborhood Wendy’s restaurant, he never would have expected what might happen during his speedy dinner. Not only was he laughed at by the employees behind the counter, however he was left crying once he saw the three-word name they used to depict him at the base of his receipt: “Lil Ugly Dude.”
The boy was minding his own business and simply wanted to purchase a junior bacon cheeseburger meal when the incident occurred. “It hurt my feelings,” Brown explained, according to WFXT. “It made me cry. I was embarrassed and I felt bad. You don’t go around making fun of people. You don’t know their situation, that’s bullying.”
Teeneshia Bush, Brown’s mother, was furious when her son told her about the incident. Acting as any good mother would, she decided to vent her frustration and speak out on her Facebook page.
“This is unacceptable and unprofessional,” she wrote in her post. “My child was so embarrassed and upset he said the whole store was laughing at him including the manager. I play about a lot of things but my kids isn’t one.”
However, she has chosen to let Wendy’s handle their employee’s misconduct, instead of taking matters into her own hands – and it’s a good thing she did. Wendy’s issued a statement and took appropriate action.
“Wendy’s has been a part of this community for many years, and we were certainly disappointed to learn that one of our employees treated a guest in such a rude manner. We take this seriously, and we no longer employ this individual,” Ed Sheffield, director of management services at Wendy’s informed. “When we learned of the incident, we immediately contacted the guest. We apologized to the young man and his mother and look forward to welcoming them back to Wendy’s again.”
Without question, the employee at Wendy’s was completely in the wrong for humiliating the teen by the way he was addressed on the receipt. Thankfully, Wendy’s handled the situation by promptly removing the rude employee from their business.
When an employee is purposely disrespecting the customers at a business, that employee is negatively affecting how the public views that company and their values. Hopefully, this former employee (and all the other employees involved) has learned a lesson and will think twice before they choose to bully someone again.
