His Son’s Scar Made Him Feel Like a “Monster”—Then Dad Says “They Can Stare at Both Of Us”

As any parent would be, Josh Marshall was devastated when his son Gabriel, now 8, was diagnosed with a form of cancer called anaplastic astrocytoma, a rare malignant brain tumor, in March 2015. Gabriel had to have surgery to remove part of the tumor, and though he is now stable and has been off of treatment for 9 months, his surgery left him with a large, conspicuous scar. When he told his dad that the scar made him feel like a “monster”—”It broke my heart,” Josh told us.

So what did that loving dad do? He jumped into action, of course, getting a tattoo on his head that is identical to the scar Gabriel bears. AH-mazing!

“I told him if people wanted to stare, they could stare at both of us,” he said.

To celebrate Father’s Day, Josh entered his and Gabriel’s pic in the St. Baldrick’s foundation contest for the #BestBaldDad—and won by a landslide!

Since Marshall won the competition, his picture has been shared across dozens of Facebook pages and Instagram accounts. It huge attention on Bamf Nation’s Instagram account, where the picture has over 137,000 likes and counting!

We think Josh is a pretty rad dad and Gabriel is as strong as they come! Praying for you, Gabriel, that your health remains stable.
