Johnny Depp has long held London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in his heart, and on Friday he made some children very happy when he turned up in character as Jack Sparrow, the role he plays in Pirates of the Caribbean.
It’s not the first time Johnny has rocked up in costume to the world famous hospital, but every year he dons the familiar Tricorne hat and wig, as a Christmas surprise for the patients in the hospital.
This year he met patients including Eithne, who took to Twitter after to express her shock at the meeting, simply writing: ‘What the f**k’.

He also met a young toddler, who is suffering from hyperinsulinism, with her aunt Victoria Kearney sharing a snap on Instagram, as well as a young lad called Louie, whose picture was shared by his father Simon Randall-Coles.

Johnny’s daughter Lily-Rose was admitted to the hospital in 2007 with kidney failure, and in 2015 he revealed that he returns to the hospital dressed as his Pirates of the Caribbean character because it’s ‘a gift’.
‘For me it’s a gift. They give me the gift,’ he said, speaking on The Graham Norton Show.
‘When my daughter was ill in Great Ormond Street it was the darkest period of my life. I’d always done these visits but after that experience the visits became more and more important,’ he said.
‘The kids are so courageous but to be able to bring a smile or a giggle to the parents means everything in the world to me.’
