As the world mourns superstar Prince, the legacy of his performances and songs flood the Internet. The ONE Campaign recently posted this incredibly soulful and spot-on performance of British singer Jessie J singing Prince’s classic “Purple Rain” at the charity’s 10th Anniversary Gala held in New York City in December 2015.
“Our friend and phenomenal performer, Jessie J, covered one of Prince’s most powerful songs, “Purple Rain,” on World AIDS Day 2015 at Carnegie Hall,” read the message on the charity’s blog. “We wanted to share it today as a tribute to a man whose music changed the world. Never underestimate the power of your voice.”
While British fans may easily recognize the young singer in the video, American audiences may recall her as the talented singer who kicked off Fox’s January 2016 live musical production of “Grease” by singing the theme song.
This classic Prince song seemed to be on everyone’s mind in the days following his April 21, 2016 death. According to Billboard magazine, “Purple Rain,” earned distinction as the top-selling song of the week, re-entering the Digital Songs sales chart at No. 1 with 122,000 sold.
