The town of Caldari di Ortona, Abruzzo, Italy, has dependably been a delightful destination. It’s a spot on a well known journey course, the Cammino di San Tommaso, and has glorious sights to be seen and vineyards to visit.
However recently, the town has presented an element that takes it from ‘ooh, I’d like to visit there, maybe’ to ‘TAKE ME THERE, NOW’.
If you visit Caldari di Ortona, you will find a fountain. But not just any fountain. We’re talking about a wine fountain, that dispenses free wine 24/7.
The fountain sits in the Dora Sarchese vineyard, and is open to everyone who walks by and fancies grabbing a glass.
It’s a joint project of the vineyard and a non-profit organisation that protects the pilgrimage route.
So it’s specifically designed to quench the thirst of all the people taking hikes along the pathway.

But realistically, there’s nothing to stop you from driving up to the vineyard in your walking boots and helping yourself.
Is anyone else now frantically looking up plane tickets for this weekend?
